The upcoming Mobilities Reading Group will take place in the Mobilities Lab (Bowland North B37) Wednesday July 29, 2015 from 4PM to 5PM. The reading is f rom Henri Bergson’sĀ Creative Evolution.Ā All are welcome to attend!

From Monika Büscher:

“I feel I have to explain myself! Another 100 or so page philosophical exploration of fundamentals? and the first 15 or so pages are about ā€˜Nothing’?!
Here’s why: References to Bergson are rife in mobilities research (e.g Adey If Mobility is Everything Then it is Nothing: Towards a Relational Politics of (Im)mobilities). There are intriguing quotes like ’there is no form, since form is immobile and reality is movement’ Ā and ā€˜our consciousness is turned away from movement, to regard only the anticipated image of the movement accomplished’. I want to read the original thoughts.
As I’ve started reading, I’ve found it amazing. There is a deep critique of science and an inspiring call for a more mobile way of making knowledge and worlds. He calls on us to ā€˜install ourselves within it’, which in my mind really resonates with mobile methods. So … I hope you enjoy it! Ā If you don’t – see if other mobilities articles that reference Bergson do it for you. E.g. With a search on ā€œBergsonā€ at the Mobilities journal:
Looking forward to seeing some of you on Wednesday.”
