Fantasy allows a culture a highly creative means of telling stories about itself, so why should certain minority groups be excluded because of their expressive form?

Working with Deaf communities, my research explores how the medium of the fantasy novel can be used to represent concepts like sign language, Deaf history, discrimination, tech/aids, and the vibrance of Deaf culture. The product of this research will culminate in a fantasy novel narrated by two D/deaf characters and a critical reflection on the process of worldbuilding, character-building, and conlanging for fantasy deafness.
