His most recent research interests are at the intersection of innovation studies, political economy, and critical management scholarship, with a distinctive focus on how innovation is produced, legitimised, and governed beyond the Global North. Drawing on a strong foundation in R&D and innovation management, his work critically discusses dominant, Western?centric theories of innovation by foregrounding Global South actors and environments, alternative development pathways, and asymmetric power relations in global innovation systems.

Beyond his research interests, Simone has worked extensively with Italian, UK, and Chinese Government institutions to set up and deliver cooperation programmes and official business delegations.
