Amanda Ross

Marketing Manager

Profile

Introduction

I am a marketer, coach, wellbeing champion, facilitator, and conductor. Across these areas I bring my wealth of experience of communications, peer support and wellbeing to help people feel understood, valued and able to take their next steps, whether that’s promoting a product or service, accessing expertise, resources and support, sharing thoughts, clarifying goals, and making changes, or building confidence through creative, inclusive music?making.

Over my career, my work has included supporting individuals through challenges via marketing consultancy, facilitation and coaching; facilitating peer?to?peer problem solving through Action Learning Sets; exploring and celebrating the voice through inclusive vocal workshops, choirs and bands; creating University?wide wellbeing resources, workshops and networks that improved access to mental health support; and designing clear, accessible marketing campaigns that help businesses access innovation support from multi?million?pound global projects. I have also recruited, supervised and coordinated marketing delivery with colleagues, students and interns, including staff in digital services and assistant roles.

Marketing, Partnerships & Engagement

I manage the marketing of partnerships and business engagement activities for the Faculty of Science and Technology, a community of around 2,500 students, 700 staff and 340 PhD researchers across eight departments. I provide marketing consultancy, project management, strategic planning and stakeholder engagement, enabling business development and delivering campaigns in collaboration with researchers and engagement staff.

Alongside this Faculty role, I also contribute to University?level knowledge exchange (KE) communications as part of the KE Marketing & Communications Group. This includes shaping institution?wide messaging, coordinating cross?faculty activity and leading major projects such as the full rebrand and redevelopment of ¶¶ÒõAPPµ¼º½’s business and partnerships web presence. Working at both levels enables me to align Faculty priorities with wider University strategy, ensuring consistent, accessible and high?quality communications across the organisation.

This work includes strategic marketing and campaign delivery for multi?million?pound innovation programmes- translating complex research into clear, accessible content, and delivering impactful, multi?channel campaigns for industry, academic and public audiences. I manage digital channels, websites, newsletters and CRM systems; promoting events, co-ordinating partnerships and multi?stakeholder projects.

Through these activities I support recruitment, partnership development and public engagement across collaborative research and innovation, student engagement, access to specialist R&D facilities, co?working and lab space, and professional training activities. This includes collaborative partnerships across early-stage start-ups, emerging ventures, small and medium enterprises, charities, social enterprises, public sector organisations, the NHS, UK Government bodies and global companies.

Coach and Co-working Companies Coaching Programme Manager

I am a professional coach, programme manager and facilitator with seven years’ coaching experience across higher education and business environments. I deliver confidential 1:1 coaching for ¶¶ÒõAPPµ¼º½ staff as part of the Staff Coaching Network and for employees of campus?based companies, supporting people through challenges, transitions and professional development. I also manage the Co-working Companies Coaching Programme, including recruitment, contracting, delivery, evaluation and reporting.

My personal approach as a coach is characterised by my openness and inquisitiveness and strengths in communications. I use my ability to quickly develop rapport, creating a safe space for people to share their problems, hopes and dreams, and help them to focus and translate these into tangible, achievable, and often lifechanging goals.

Coaching Related Qualifications

I gained the Institute of Leadership and Management Level 5 in Coaching and Mentoring in 2019 and joined the ¶¶ÒõAPPµ¼º½ Coaching Bank, which offers coaching to all ¶¶ÒõAPPµ¼º½ Staff. I also have a MA in Applied Research and Consultancy, Institute of Leadership and Management Level 5 Leadership and Management, and over two decades experience of working with Small and Medium Enterprises. As part of the University’s Coaching Community of Practice, I receive regular supervision and training to keep my practice current.

Coaching Clients

My clients have included people from a wide range of sectors, roles and career stages, from new starters and early?career professionals to Heads of Department, owner?managers, technical specialists and senior leaders, with clients based in the UK and internationally. Clients achieve rapid progress, often within three sessions, and 100% would recommend coaching, with outcomes including promotions, improved communication, clearer boundaries and increased confidence.

Action Learning Sets

My Coaching work is also influenced by my training in Action Learning through the Northwest HE Cross?Institutional Network and ¶¶ÒõAPPµ¼º½. Action Learning is a peer?to?peer problem?solving approach where small groups build trust, listen, ask open, non?judgemental questions and support each other to reflect and make meaningful changes. I created and facilitated programmes for the Women’s Network (as Co?Founder) and for cross?sector Knowledge Exchange professionals, trained a set member to adapt Action Learning for online student groups, and shared Action Learning tools with departments to embed peer?support practices across the University.

Wellbeing

Over my career I identified gaps in staff wellbeing support and created accessible resources for more than 2,000 colleagues, building a University?wide programme grounded in the 5 Ways to Wellbeing model and contributing to HR policies and guidance. I developed and delivered wellbeing information workshops that explained pathways to support, included shared experiences and external speakers, and closed with grounding practices, as well as planning and promoting external events. I also used creative activities to build confidence, delivering wellbeing singing workshops to strengthen connections. This work contributed to a culture shift where wellbeing was openly discussed and was recognised with a staff award. I now oversee the staff wellbeing website, carrying out ad?hoc updates and periodic content checks to ensure key information remains accurate and accessible.

Community Music & Creative Engagement

I also draw on over 20 years’ experience as a community musician and performer across two bands, including performing at ¶¶ÒõAPPµ¼º½ events as well as pubs, festivals, weddings, and charity fundraising events, providing high energy live music. Alongside this, I have led inclusive vocal workshops, choirs and community groups, using accessible teaching approaches to build confidence, connection. and I bring this creative, confidence?building experience into my coaching, facilitation and wellbeing practice.
