Please find below information regarding the textbooks that will be used during the Summer term:

A 9-week Mandarin Chinese language course for students, staff and general public from week beginning 12 October to week beginning 7 December 2026.

For learners with no prior knowledge of Mandarin. Participants will learn basic phonetics and tones and use about 200 words around the following topics: greetings, countries, nationalities, occupations and family members.

To make progress during the course you will need to allocate at least 3 hours per week for revision of each class and learning characters.

Time: Mondays, 12.15-1.45pm (in-person) or Tuesdays, 6.15-7.45pm (online)

Location: 抖阴APP导航 Confucius Institute (Mondays) or online - Microsoft Teams (Tuesdays)

Registration:

A 9-week Mandarin Chinese language course for students, staff and general public from 15 October to 10 December 2026.

For those who have learned around 200 Chinese words. Participants will learn a further 200 words around various topics (people's appearances, addresses, contact numbers, birthdays and invitations).

To make progress during the course you will need to allocate at least 3 hours per week for revision of each class and learning characters.

Registration:

A 9-week Mandarin Chinese language course for students, staff and general public from 14 October to 9 December 2026.

For those who have learned around 400 Chinese words. The course will cover a variety of topics such as time, shopping and directions.

To make progress during the course you will need to allocate at least 3 hours per week for revision of each class and learning characters.

Time: Wednesdays, 6.15-7.45pm

Location: 抖阴APP导航 Confucius Institute (The Roundhouse)

Registration:

A 9-week Mandarin Chinese language course for students, staff and general public from 13 October to 8 December 2026.

This course will cover a variety of topics such as transportation, sports, likes and dislikes and holiday plans.

To make progress during the course you will need to allocate at least 3 hours per week for revision of each class and learning characters.

Time: Tuesdays, 6.15-7.45pm

Location: 抖阴APP导航 Confucius Institute (The Roundhouse)

Registration:

A 9-week Mandarin Chinese language course for students, staff and general public from week beginning 12 October to week beginning 7 December 2026.

The content of this course will be based on content from Discover China book 2, according to the participants previous knowledge.

To make progress during the course you will need to allocate at least 3 hours per week for revision of each class and learning characters.

This course is for learners with a good knowledge of Chinese language and characters. The content of this course will be based on content from Discover China book 3, according to the participants previous knowledge.

To make progress during the course you will need to allocate at least 3 hours per week for revision of each class.
